Leading up to photographing a wedding, we are always sneaking a peek at the forecast for the day of. Surely, our clients are doing the same. So, what to do when it looks like it's a given that Mother Nature will inevitably dampen all of those meticulously planned outdoor details, on the wedding day? We wanted to use this blog post to demonstrate that it doesn't mean all is lost. Instead, if you are willing to embrace it, and pivot plans a tiny bit, just as much fun can be had. Honestly, and secretly (LOL), we've wanted to shoot something like this for a long while.
Tim and Kristen's wedding day didn't go as hoped, but that didn't slow down the fun! Originally they planned a backyard wedding, with a tent and beautiful views outdoors. However, the week leading up to their special day all of our weather apps kept saying the same thing, and never budged - it was going to rain a LOT! Some would've let it really get to them and cause immense disappointment. Not these two. Their warmth and optimism is infectious, as we discovered. They weren't going to let it ruin the party. Rather, everyone pitched in to transform the garage into a safe haven from the elements and a new site for their wedding ceremony. Guests were even up for the task, and didn't flinch at our suggestion to do the family photos in the front yard, despite the rain.
A true test of how adventurous this couple and their wedding party was, was when they agreed to our suggestion to STILL go to the Kincardine beach in the pouring rain. We love a good challenge and at the end of the day if we look disheveled behind the camera, it's ok as long as we can perfectly capture our couple's wedding day. Raw emotion and happiness are key ingredients to beautiful photography. Embracing whatever gets thrown at you is the ideal way to tell the true story of your day.
The wedding party rounded up some umbrellas and we all hopped in our vehicles and headed out. As we drove to the beach, the closer we got the harder the rain poured down. Raincoats and cameras in hand, we got everyone organized and picked out the perfect lakeside location for the photos. Initially, we started with some fun photos of the wedding party and couple with umbrellas. Then, we all decided to say "the heck with it" and ditched the umbrellas. By the time we got to Tim and Kristen's couple's photos, they were absolutely soaked but didn't care at all. Their embracing of the moment couldn't have made us happier. We absolutely love the results and we hope you do too.
