Can't believe we're saying this, but we're actually caught up on editing (for now anyways LOL). Since this was the most recent wedding that we shot and edited, what better place to start in getting some new blogs out.
One of the best compliments wedding photographers can receive, in our humble opinion, is to photograph several weddings within one family. To know that they as a family are happy with the work and spending the day together. It's such an intimate slice of their lives and fills us with joy. Thijs, the groom, is the second member of the family whose wedding we've photographed and let us just say, they're fantastic people. Even the passage of a couple of years not having seen everyone and a pandemic, it still felt seamless as we slipped in the front door of their Collingwood waterfront home. It was here that we had planned to not only shoot the "getting ready" photos, but a first look for the bride and groom to be.
Rain seemed to be a theme this year at several weddings. I mean, what can you do? Luckily it didn't deter what we had planned with Ashley and Thijs. At the venue, Living Waters Resort, the ceremony was moved indoors. Art In Bloem did a FANTASTIC job of setting up decor in the reception hall and plenty of natural light spilled in through the abundance of windows, giving the illusion of an outdoor ceremony. Afterwards, a break in the rain allowed us to sneak outside for a few more family photos as well as ones with the wedding party and most importantly, some romantic newlywed photos.
Later, after the speeches and dancing (provided by DJ Mastermix), it was our cue to go out and set up a sparkler exit for the bride and groom. We'd done a bunch of planning leading up this specific moment, which we felt was necessary. It's important to go over details and any questions we might have in the pre-wedding meeting we always have with our couples. We're happy to report, it was a success (after a bit of wrangling of the participants).
Congratulations Ashley and Thijs! We had a blast.
