As we sit down to write this, we hope you're all keeping cozy and warm during this particularly cold stretch of winter weather. We thought this would be perfect timing to blog about a winter cottage elopement, we photographed. Those who know us, know that there isn't much we won't do to capture the perfect photo. This includes our love of winter photography. No matter that we can't feel our fingers and toes, or have to trek through deep snow, or slide down icy hills (true story). It's all worth it to us, in the end, and part of the adventure that we love about photography.
Julia had contacted us about her wedding plans with Dale. It was a simple and romantic premise: rent a muskoka cottage so that they could celebrate their nuptials with a handful of family and friends. Of course, this was right up our alley and it sounded fantastic! Nestled in a snow covered forest, their choice of location was perfect. The warm wood log interior lent itself to be inviting and cozy for the "getting ready" photos. Multi-levels meant that we could just move up and down the stairs to capture both the bride and groom getting ready. Once they were both ready, we coached them on how to do a first look reveal they'd wanted to do, pre-ceremony. With such lovely scenery, it's honestly been one of our favourite first looks to date. After this, everyone gathered at the bottom of the slope, to await Julia's arrival. The ceremony area was perfect. It was lantern lit and minimal decor was required, because the location itself was a circle carved out by nature in amongst the snowy evergreens. After they were pronounced husband and wife, we spent about an hour capturing some family photos, as well as some romantic couple's photos. We even got a few with their dog, which we loved.
We really cherish these adventures, and love when we get a chance to be a part of these intimate celebrations. If this sounds perfect to you, hit us up with your wedding plans, we'd love to chat! The more adventurous, the better :)
