Baseball themed weddings aren't something that comes along very often, but this actually wasn't our first one. Several years ago we photographed one in Bolton, where the baseball diamond was named after the groom's grandfather and it was published in Weddingbells. So, having had that previous experience under our belts we were pretty psyched to shoot this one because it had the added bonus of an actual mini game after the ceremony at Lisle Baseball Field. Their officiant even joined in the fun by dressing up as an umpire!
Katherine and James were super easy going and fun to work with. Nobody, including the bride and groom, was afraid to get dirty. One of the participants even slid into second base during the softball game. Popcorn was handed out as a snack to the game participants as well as the crowd behind the home plate fence, viewing it from the bleachers. Which, was also the well planned spot for wedding guests to view the ceremony at home plate.
After the game and a few pics of the bride and groom with their vintage Ford Mustang, everyone headed to the reception. It was held at The 9th Event Venue in Beeton, Ontario. Once there, guests enjoyed some refreshments and cocktails provided by 2 Girls Your Bar, as well as lawn games. A lot of personal touches were included in their day: corn grown by one of the groomsmen for dinner, flowers for bouquets and centrepieces grown by a friend, homemade baseball bow tie made by Katherine for her hubby James, baseball related trivia as part of the dinner sequence, as well as other small touches.
We even managed to catch some nice late day light for some romantic couple's photos overlooking the farm fields surrounding the outdoor venue. It's safe to say a lot of fun and enjoyment was had by all (pun intended:), us included. Congrats to the newlywed couple!
