2020. The year we learned it won't be the zombie apocalypse that'll get us, but rather a lack of toilet paper on store shelves. A year that we were reminded what is TRULY important in this world: family, dear friends and our health. So, here my friends is our recap of 2020. The ups and downs, the good and the bad. Both personally and professionally.
SPRING
This was the start of the strangeness, or rather, the "new norm". We spent most of our time in the spring of 2020 rescheduling a number of upcoming weddings, as well as working on our house/property. The newfound downtime (unable to photograph for clients) was actually welcome in a way - let me explain why. For varied personal reasons we're behind in getting our home and property to where we'd like it to be. So, we got out the chainsaw and really went to town on trimming or cutting down trees. It's labour intensive and at the end of each day it doesn't look like you've done as much as your achy muscles might reflect. But, over the course of a few weeks we REALLY saw progress! We planted new gardens and had several bonfires, minus the company of friends.
SUMMER
Aaah summer. The return of warm weather and the return to being able to shoot with clients again. Not gonna lie, it felt weird strapping on the gear again. Luckily we started small (family photos and elopements) and before long it was like riding a bike. On a disappointing note, a wedding we'd booked for Alberta and had planned a whole family trip around, got cancelled. Our business plans long term include evolving our wedding photography to be Canadian destination weddings as well. 2020 and Covid have taught us that we're going to have to temporarily put these plans on hold.
FALL
This is normally our busiest time of year, however it was a different kind of busy. Brides and grooms to be who'd still kept a 2020 wedding date with us ALL had their wedding plans modified one way or another. That meant things such as: a reduced guest count, a different venue or new location, sometimes all of the above. Kudos to our clients! They ALL seemed to handle it in stride, through all of the stress. Come the day of each 2020 wedding we photographed there was a similar underlying theme to all: it's our wedding day and we're here with friends and family so let's enjoy it! A very chill vibe to be sure.
WINTER
As the holidays quickly approached, like they always seem to, we began to reflect on the year that was. We felt positive and proud. Positive for what was to come and proud of what we'd accomplished given the circumstances. We'd found a new balance in our lives during 2020 and going forward we intend on continuing to work on it, to keep it.

Angelina - Great reflection and blog post. Amazing collection of photos too-you wouldn't even know we were in a pandemic looking at them because they are so absolutely beautiful. Anyone to have photos done by BQ Photography knows that your professionalism, kindness, and skill, is the reason to refer you to friends and family, and to build a relationship for photos long past the initial first point of contact. Hoping for a brighter 2021 and to work with you again soon.

Susan - Love the comments on 2020 and how it affected you. Overall you came out on top and we all reconnected in ways that were more meaningful. The images you and your clients came away with are all the more special because of the challenges of 2020. Well done!
